King Printing/ADI Books installs short-run hard
case book machine.
King Printing, a commercial printing company in Lowell,
Mass. that prints and binds orders for specialty books
in print runs under 10,000 pieces, has installed a new
short-run hard case book binding machine.
The new DGR in-line casing book is one of five in use
around the world, said Sid Chinai, president and owner
of King Printing. The new equipment dramatically cuts
makeready time. It also boasts a unique three-knife trimmer
that allows an operator to make individual blade cuts
when necessary.
“It quadruples my production capacity without increasing
headcount,” Chinai said.
Two version with server motors. I like it without because
there is less stuff to go round.
“The world of book publishing continues to evolve,”
said company founder and president Siddarth Chinai. “There
will always be print runs in the hundreds of thousands
for best sellers, the reality of book publishing and binding
is that the vast majority of titles are printed in batches
of a few thousand. That is our specialty. That is what
we focus on.
Chinai said that day-to-day operations are now overseen
by his son Aditya Chinai, who serves as managing director
of the company.
“We’ve been in business for 26 years and we’ve
seen a lot of changes over that span. We are entering
a new era in printing and book manufacturing. Slowly and
steadily, the leadership of this company is transferring
to a new generation,” he said.
As a book printer, King Printing can turn around work
within two days to 18 days depending upon specifications
for individual jobs. The company’s equipment list
starts with Digital Printers, sheet fed and web heat set.
Finished size capabilities include 5½ by 8½
inches, six by nine inches, seven by nine inches, seven
by 10 inches and 8½ by 11 inches with variable
cut off web which we can have a number of sizes without
additional paper waste.
King Printing serves clients in Europe, the Far East and
throughout North America.
